The gorgeous colors and composition of this Pre-Raphaelite painting really appeal to us. We enjoy gazing at it. At the top center is the Lamb, and from him pour the waters of eternal life, as described by the prophet Ezekiel and the Book of Revelation. Surrounding him are the symbols of the four Gospels: the Man, the Ox, the Eagle, and the Lion. Around them in this garden are a crowd of Saints and Angels. We just love the look of this picture.

Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (1833-1898) was one of the main practitioners of the Pre-Raphaelite school of art popular in the mid-to-late 1800s. It was a simplified style with a delicate beauty, and it lent itself to a sort of liturgical yet light treatment that still seems fresh to us. In college, Jones pursued religious studies, but was persuaded by the founder of the Pre-Raphaelites, Dante Rosetti, to become an artist himself. This one is circa 1880. Originally done as a stained-glass pattern, he later came back and used his great coloring skills to finish it. Pencil, chalk and watercolor, on paper panels laid on linen. ** IMPORTANT ** The image is smaller than the paper! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11, or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures, and larger sizes. The border gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in frames without using a matt.
