The CCM Axis A1.9 line is a new, lightweight streamlined pad that replaces the Premier P2.9 from years past. By adapting the LiteXcore technology from the Elite Axis pads, the Axis A1.9 senior leg pads offer a large jump in performance compared to the previous Premier line.
Source Exclusive Upgrades & Modifications
The source exclusive upgrades on the A1.9 pads are both functional and cosmetic. On the functional side of things, the knee stack is made of both HD and PE foams rather than the only PE construction of the stock A1.9. The Source Exclusive A1.9 goalie pads also feature a single inner break, single outer break which is different than the catalog model which has no outer breaks. Additionally, exclusive colors and cleaner outside logos with PU included make the pad stand out at any rink.
External Material
The Axis 1.9 pads bring the excellent Speedskin material that CCM has been using for a few years now. This material is both lighter than traditional synthetic leather as well as reducing friction on the ice increasing slide speed especially late in the game on cut up ice.
Internal Construction
The LiteXcore construction that the Axis1.9 inherits from the top of the line is the key component to the increased performance of the pad. The LiteXcore is a much slimmer profile when compared to the older Premier line, allowing for less restriction of movement. The slimmer profile has also been built stiffer for harder rebounds and of course to maintain structural integrity over time. The inside sliding edge of the pad is also a complete flat HD foam piece that creates a solid connection with the ice and prevents pucks from getting stuck underneath the sliding edge.
Pad Break
When dealing with a stiffer pad it is important to have a pad break that benefits the construction of the pad itself. On our Source Exclusive model of the Axis A1.9 leg pad we offer a single inner break and a single outer break as a stock option. The slightly increased flex of the pad allows the fivehole to close easier while still maintaining a good amount of stiffness and surface area overall.
Boot Angle & Toe Taper
The Axis 1.9 senior goal pads are built with maximum surface area and seal in mind. For that reason, the leg pads offer both a 90-degree toe taper, as well as a 90-degree boot. The 90-degree toe taper keeps the entire inside edge of the boot pressed against the ice in the butterfly, helping stop any pucks dribble under the toes. The 90-degree boot also allows for the goaltender to be in a low stance without the stiffness of the pad limiting movement.
Knee Cradle
The knee cradle is the unsung hero of the goalie pad. The Axis A1.9 has a solid surface for your knee to land on that is improved even further with the Source Exclusive version of the pad. The knee stack features the same 3D Grip surface from the Axis top end pads that keeps the knee seated solidly on the knee stack. The Source Exclusive version of the Axis 1.9 offers both HD and PE foams to offer an increase in stiffness and rigidity over the stock knee cradle. The pad also offers a removable knee wrap to either offer a tighter or looser fit depending on the goalies preference.
Strapping
The QMSS Strapping system returns to the Axis 1.9 leg pads, and for good reason. The lightweight and secure velcro strapping system works well in tandem with the break of the pad and the LiteXcore to provide a familiar loose feeling that allows for the best possible pad rotation. The bungee strapping works well in tandem with the 90-degree boot to allow the goalies skate to drop to the ice just as effectively to provide the most powerful pushes.
Sizes & Colors
The Source Exclusive version of the A1.9 comes in lots of great colours. All Black, All White, and White/White/Black/Black are standard colors available. For the goalies that want a bit more color, we offer Source for Sports Exclusive colorways in Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Vegas Golden Knights. All these pads will be available in 33 1.5, 34 1.5 and 35 1.5 in senior sizing.
